    A NEW LOT HAS ARRIVED!

    Summary

This Costa Rican coffee is one of our top sellers and for good reason. The Cooperative farmers that are producing this coffee have been together since 1962. Most farms are very small letting the farmer families focus on producing a very high-quality product. The Eco-Pulping helps the farmers produce a coffee that is rich but crisp. More about Eco-Pulping below.

    Flavor Profile

Upon first taste, you will get a note of black cherry and lightly sweetened cocoa. It is naturally sweet but is very well balanced and finishes with an almond or walnuts and very smooth. It's also a bit reminiscent of childhood with the taste of coco krispies cereal.

    Details

Costa Rica Monte Crisol is produced by Cooperativa de Caficultores y de Servicios Múltiples de Palmares (COOPEPALMARES, R. L.), a cooperative founded in 1962 with over 1,450 members from Palmares, a canton in the province of Alajuela, Costa Rica. Most (~70%) of the 47,000 families involved in coffee farming have a coffee production yield of less than 200 exportable bags for annual production. These smaller farms allow the farmers to focus on quality and continuous improvement ideals.

The state-of-the-art processing facility with certifications in quality and environmental management from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) utilizes recycled water and the mechanical dryers (guardiolas) recirculate airflow to maximize furnace efficiency. The facility also has an organic fertilizer production plant and a water treatment plant. In addition to exporting coffee, Coopepalmares operates two supermarkets and a hardware store in Palmares, and sells roasted coffee for national consumption. Cooperative members have access to low interest loans and healthcare for their families at the cooperative run health center and mobile clinic.

    What is Eco-Pulping?

Eco-Pulping coffee refers to the process of removing the skin and flesh of the coffee cherry with little or no water. This process is very popular in areas of the world where fresh water may be difficult to find. This allows farmers to bypass the fermentation and washing steps which require the most water and generate the most significant threats to water quality. This is one of the most environmentally friendly coffee processing options available.
